So, let’s dive in!

Q&A WITH AUTHOR BELLE CALHOUNE

Belle recently became a bestselling author with the release of her novel Falling for Alaska, which is definitely worth adding to your books to read list! Read on to get to know her better.

  1. How long have you been writing and how did you begin your career as an author?

I’ve been writing professionally for twelve years, but I’ve been a writer all of my life. Stories were always churning in my mind and I loved getting them down on paper. I grew up across the street from a public library and that was a source of such inspiration to me.

  2. When did you start writing for Harlequin and how did you get there?

In 2012 I was a stay at home mom who went online and participated in a Harlequin forum group for fans and aspiring authors. They would regularly post pitch opportunities for different Harlequin lines. I decided to pitch to Emily Rodmell, a Love Inspired editor. The event was called a “Speed date with Emily”. She liked my pitch and began requesting chapters. In September of 2012 I got the call that I was being offered a contract by Harlequin Love Inspired.

  3. How did you become a New York Times best seller?

I became a New York Times Best Selling author with the publication of Falling for Alaska, book one in a new series from Hachette’s Forever line. It was a thrilling and humbling moment that I’ve been working toward for over a decade. It came out in March and it’s been such an incredible blessing to see readers enjoying it.

  4. What marketing worked to get you there?

I didn’t do anything specific other than spread the word to my readership and write a great book. I think authors plant the seeds for years before a book “hits” so the hard work you put into your brand builds up over time. Nurturing your readers over the years pays off.

  5. Do you have any upcoming books?

I have several upcoming books, starting with An Alaskan Blessing (August 2024), Flirting with Alaska (December 2024) and His Secret Alaskan Family (January 2025). I also have two additional books coming out in 2025 that I’m working on.

  6. What’s your favorite ice cream?

Mint chocolate chip is hands down my favorite ice cream.

  7. Are you a cat lover or dog lover?

I am a dog lover. I have two dogs. A mini poodle named Copper. A black Labrador Retriever named Beau.

  8. Morning writer or evening writer- which do you prefer?

I’m actually a mix of both. I am not an early riser or a morning person, so I don’t get into my groove until afternoon, then I tend to work until evening.

He agrees to keep an open mind, but between working with his estranged father and confronting heavy childhood memories with his brothers, Xavier’s ready to rush back to civilization. Even the stunning woman who runs his grandmother’s restaurant seems to instantly dislike him.

True Everett knows better than to let a ridiculously handsome man distract her, especially when it’s the same guy who stands between her and owning Northern Exposure, the tavern she manages. She didn’t pour her soul into the restaurant just for Xavier to swoop in and snatch away her dreams. But amid all the barbs—and, fine . . . all the sparks—flying, True glimpses the man beneath the swagger.
